Maserati GranSport Spyder is a car based on the standard Spyder which is unveiled by the Italian manufacturer in 2002 but it is actually equipped with more powerful engines than the base variant. The GranSport Spyder has a more aerodynamic body style with a more aggressive look supported by the extended headlights and by the large chrome grille split into two parts. Getting back to the engines, the GranSport Spyder has a choice of two engines, a 4.2 Cambiocorsa and a 4.2 GT, which produce 390 horsepower. The Cambiocorsa variant could push the car to a maximum speed of 176 mph and could help it accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in no less than 4.9 seconds.

MASERATI GranSport Spyder 4.2L GT 6MT (390 HP)

MASERATI GranSport Spyder 4.2L V8 Cambiocorsa 6AT (390 HP)

The first Maserati Spyder was unveiled in 2001 at Frankfurt Auto Show. But the mass production of the car was started in March 2002 which is two months before the introduction of the Coupe model. What's interesting is that the Spyder was entirely based on the 3200 GT variant, sharing numerous parts with it but upgraded and marketed under a different name. More important, the Spyder has a removable ragtop controlled from the center console, as well as advanced safety features, transmission and suspension system. For instance, teh safety of the car was enhanced with front and side driver and passenger airbags, combined with Maserati's Stability Program, ABS and EBD.
